Ace Chemicals (acechemicalscase.com) is an educational platform developed for use in accounting and auditing courses at the University of Kentucky. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

This site is operated by Dr. Jason Rasso solely for academic purposes. It is not a commercial product and does not engage in advertising or data monetization of any kind.

When you use this site, the following information may be collected:

• Your name — entered by you when starting a case simulation
• Your class code — entered by you to join a course session
• Case activity data — your responses, decisions, and progress within simulations
• AI interaction transcripts — your conversations with AI-driven characters in the simulations
• Session metadata — timestamps and engagement duration for grading purposes

We do not collect passwords, financial information, government IDs, or any sensitive personal data beyond what is listed above.

When it reaches us differs by case, and the difference matters. In most cases nothing leaves your browser until you press Submit at the end. Case 00: Campus Pulse Events is the exception: as you finish each phase, a copy of the work you have done so far is sent to your instructor, and the first result you record on each graded item is stored as you go. That exists so a closed tab does not cost you the whole session, and so that a repeated attempt at an item you have already been shown the answer to cannot be scored as a first attempt. It means your partial work is held by us before you have submitted anything.

Your information is used exclusively for the following academic purposes:

• Generating your individualized case variables and simulation experience
• Evaluating your performance for course grading
• Allowing your instructor to review session logs and audit results

Your data is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for marketing.

Not every case uses AI.Case 00: Campus Pulse Events has no AI component of any kind — no interactive characters, no free text, and nothing sent to any outside service. If you are working on that case, this section does not apply to you.

Some other case simulations use Google Gemini, an AI service provided by Google LLC, to power interactive characters. Your typed inputs during these interactions are sent to Google's API for processing. Nothing that identifies you is sent with them.The request carries your message and the conversation so far, and nothing else — not your name, not your class code, not your email. It is made by this site's server rather than by your browser, so your device and network address are not disclosed to Google either. Google receives the words you typed, with no way to attribute them to you. Your full transcript is stored here, encrypted, and linked to your name for grading. Google's use of the text it receives is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We do not store raw AI prompts beyond what is captured in your session transcript.

Session data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon (neon.tech), a SOC 2 compliant cloud database provider. Your name is stored encrypted; so is your full transcript.

Submissions are retained for the academic term in which they were generated, plus twelve months, and are then deleted. The twelve months exist so that a grade appeal, an academic-integrity question or a transcript request can still be answered after the term closes. Nothing is kept beyond that point for any purpose.

You can ask for your own submission to be deleted sooner. Email jason.rasso@uky.edu from the address your institution has for you, naming your class code. Deletion is permanent and removes the work your instructor grades from, so ask your instructor first if the course is still running.

Student session logs are reached through a password-protected faculty portal. Access is held by the site operator (Dr. Jason Rasso) and by any instructor who has been given a faculty password in order to run a case. Students can only see their own in-session results.

To be accurate about the limits of that: the faculty password is shared rather than issued per instructor, and it is not restricted to a single class. An instructor who holds it and knows another section's class code could retrieve that section's work. Administrative access to student records is logged. If you want to know whether your section's data has been accessed, ask and it can be checked.

While you are working through a case, your answers are kept in your own browser. Cases differ in how long that copy survives, and the difference matters if you share a computer:

• Most cases use your browser's local storage, so you can close the tab and come back. That copy stays on the computer you used until it is cleared, and it is not removed automatically when you submit.
• Case 00: Campus Pulse Events uses session storageinstead, which the browser discards when you close the tab. You cannot come back to a part-finished attempt, and nothing of it is left behind on the machine. As you complete each phase of that case, a copy is sent to your instructor so your work is not lost to them — but it cannot be loaded back into the case for you to continue.

If you are working on a shared or lab computer, use a private/incognito window, or use the “remove my work from this computer” button shown after you submit. Otherwise the next person to open the case on that machine could read what you wrote. Your recovery code is stored the same way, so treat it as you would a password.

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of the data associated with your name and class code
• Request deletion of your data after the course concludes
• Ask questions about how your data is used
